“Kindred” and “Crawler Commanders” feature the introduction of an infamous character from the Legends Line, some more insights into the Force, and a key moment that will echo throughout fandom. We are now eight episodes into the shortened fourth season, and appear to be headed somewhere critically important to the overarching story of Star Wars Rebels. Naturally, if you have not seen “Kindred” or “Crawler Commanders” just yet, be sure to watch them before reading this column.
Rukh
One of the highlights of Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy is the character, Rukh. The assassin has always been dangerous to the good guys, which makes this character’s canonical debut all the more thrilling. The way he moves, as well as the voice work by the illustrious Warwick Davis, really enhance an already dangerous character. As with Thrawn, expectations are high for Rukh, but for me, the fearsome presence of the assassin makes a strong transition from page to animation.
Ezra and the Force
Ezra Bridger’s profound connection to the Force continues to mystify here. His awareness and kinship with the Loth-wolf introduces a new aspect of what the Force can do. How Ezra and the Rebels escape is as much a mystery to the young Jedi as it is to the audience. Ezra’s connection to nature has always been a critical part of his evolution in the series, and this moment adds another layer. At this point, it is unclear what it all means.
One honorable mention: Pay close attention to Ezra’s reaction to the demise of Captain Seevor. It did not seem innocuous to me. This also makes it difficult not to think of Kanan stating, “All paths are coming together now”, especially when considering that Ezra repeats the line here. Is this a harbinger of things to come?
Quoth the Loth-wolf …
This is not the first time we have heard the Loth-wolf talk, but it is the first time we can say with absolute certainty what the wolf is saying. It is a real stunner, too. This wolf appears to have a strong connection to Kanan, as well as to Ezra and provides quite a cliffhanger for fans. Yet again, all of these threads come together, which makes for brilliant storytelling. If you prefer questions over answers, you will not be disappointed.
THE MOMENT
I most likely don’t need to state what I am referring to here. Suffice to say, Twitter may not be able to handle the onslaught of excitement and jubilation once this episode airs. Rest assured that the moment being referenced will be clear, and is worth the wait!
