Songwriting is a gift. Some people have it. Some don’t. I don’t. Parodying songs is a gift. Some people have it. Some don’t. I don’t. That doesn’t stop me from trying my hand at it, however. (Well, maybe it should 😉 ) We find ourselves in the midst of the holiday season, and I couldn’t resist giving a parody a try — Star Wars Style. 😉 I may have s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d some lines out a bit … all so they’d rhyme. (lol) It seems to me I need not reveal the tune to which my ditty should be “sung”, but if you need help figuring it out, simply refer to the first paragraph that follows my “rendition”.
Ewoks gathered ’round campfires and tall growing worshyyr trees,
The high-flying Falcon and speeders across the Dune Sea,
Then there is Luke on Dagobah, and watching him swing,
These are a few of my favorite things.
The Jedi, the Clones and even Jar Jar,
Their lightsabers, their blasters they take into war,
Don’t even get me going on fast-flying X-wings,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Sand grains on dewbacks and tall lumbering rontos,
Domed astromech droids and golden 3PO,
Deep frozen Hoth winters that don’t melt into spring,
These are a few of my favorite things.
When Vader appears; When interrogator droid needles sting;
When Palpatine is being oh-so-bad!
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so sad.
🙂
(I never claimed it would be good! 😉 )
Thank you, thank you, thank you Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (lyrics) for creating a memorable lilt that even I could parody … somewhat. 😉 It is beyond my ken as to why “The Sound of Music’s” classic became a holiday song, but it now has found itself ensconced in holiday repertoires forever. Maybe the lines “brown paper packages tied up with string” and “snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes” have something to do with “My Favorite Things” working its way into the holiday music lineup. Who knows … but it is a good song. 🙂
I woke up this morning with the jingle swimming around in my head, and started substituting Star Wars images for the classic lines. One thing led to another … and this is what I came up with. I hope all of you who have a love of music, Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals and/or are honest-to-goodness songwriters will forgive me my foray into this realm. I don’t think I’ll be trying this again anytime soon. 😉 It was fun, however, and I thank you for humoring me. 🙂
I hope you have been enjoying this very special holiday season. It isn’t over yet! Please have a safe, fun-filled New Year’s Eve, and may 2015 be filled with wonderful surprises! See you next year! 🙂
Happy New Year!
