May the Fourth News! Lucas Museum of Narrative Art’s Cinema exhibition, “Stars Wars in Motion”

In celebration of May the Fourth, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is unveiling more details about its inaugural Cinema exhibition, “Star Wars in Motion.”  You can find the information below.

The Cinema exhibition is one of more than thirty installations that will open with the Museum on September 22, 2026. Drawn from the Museum’s founding collection, the exhibitions trace the evolution of human culture through visual storytelling, from ancient sculptures of gods and goddesses to Renaissance paintings to photographs, comics, and modern cinema.

About the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art’s Inaugural Cinema Exhibition, “Star Wars in Motion”

The first Star Wars film was released on May 25, 1977, introducing one of the most influential and enduring of cinematic worlds, which continues to fascinate global popular culture today. The exhibition “Star Wars in Motion” will transport Museum visitors to a galaxy far, far away through a selection of visionary vehicle designs, props, costumes, and illustrations from across the first six films of George Lucas’s saga, featuring a wide range of high-speed racers, hulking transport vehicles, and flying vessels. From Luke’s Landspeeder in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope to the first physical build of General Grievous’s Wheel Bike from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, the Lucas Museum’s inaugural Cinema exhibition will dazzle audiences with the possibilities of propulsive motion on distant and exotic worlds.

From the Lucas Museum’s press release:

Speed is a very familiar element in Star Wars. Spinning lightsabers, bright streaks of light speed travel, and ships weaving through battle are deeply embedded scenes in fans’ minds. The vehicles of the franchise are just as iconic as its characters, and many of those ships are part of our inaugural Cinema exhibition.

Star Wars in Motion features innovative vehicle designs, film props, costumes, and concept illustrations spanning the first six films of the visionary saga. The exhibition will transport visitors to a galaxy far, far away with high-speed racers, hulking ground vehicles, and flying vessels.

From the depths of the Lucas Archives to the galleries of the Lucas Museum, vehicles such as Luke’s Landspeeder and the first-ever physical build of General Grievous’ Wheel Bike will dazzle audiences with the need for speed on distant and exotic worlds.

On September 22nd, we ride.

Last week, the Museum unveiled information about its full sweep of inaugural exhibitions. Additional details can be found here
