United Airlines is launching their first national commercial — the first national ad buy in recent years — featuring their partnership with Star Wars. The spot is directed by Vic (Victoria) Mahoney, who is the Second Unit Director on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It also features one United’s very own female ramp employees, Channon Dade (who is based in Los Angeles). The video was filmed at Ontario International Airport and Cuddleback Lake in the Mojave Desert. According to United, the conditions were a bit rough:
We ended up shooting during strong Santa Ana winds which posed some challenges due to the elements, but made for an exciting shoot day. While shooting practically is always preferred, given the weather we needed an alternate plan. We decided to shoot green screen for any shots we weren’t able to capture due to the conditions. ILM was able to take those shots and make them work seamlessly with the footage shot in the desert.

The commercial begins playing nationwide during Thanksgiving week and will run through January.
Thank you to United.
