There has been official confirmation regarding at least one character who will not be appearing Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Director Rian Johnson told Entertainment Weekly that Billy Dee Williams will not be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian, which no doubt comes as sad news to many fans.
From EW.com:
Despite fan hopes, one character introduced in The Empire Strikes Back won’t appear in the new Star Wars sequel.
Lando Calrissian is not making an appearance.
“No, and I don’t want fans to get their hopes up,” writer-director Rian Johnson tells EW. “He’s not in the film and it was never really something that came up. I mean, I loved that character. It would have been fun to see him, but it’s just not something that ever really had a place in the story.”
We can still look forward to Lando (played by Donald Glover) appearing in Solo: A Star Wars Story when it hits theaters next May.
In case you missed it, Entertainment Weekly released four collector Star Wars: The Last Jedi covers for the December 1 issue. You can check those out here.
