As with many of our Star Wars Celebrations, this one was full of new Star Wars canon titles. I’m not sure if I have captured all of them here, but I have done my best to compile all the previews of new Star Wars stories.
We got a great look at the cover of a new illustrated children’s book called BB-8 on the Run (Disney Lucasfilm Press) by Drew Daywalt, illustrated by Matt Myers. This book tells the story of BB-8 on Jakku after leaving Poe Dameron and before meeting Rey.
The Rise of a Hero (Disney Lucasfilm Press) which will be the retelling of A New Hope from Luke Skywalker’s perspective.
Join The Resistance: Escape from Vodran by Ben Ackerman and Ben Blackert, the second in their series of books for young readers.
Star Wars Adventures, a new publishing effort from IDW, a monthly Star Wars comic series that will feature many of the heroes from the saga in a comic book that is accessible to younger readers. This is to serve as a gateway into the more adult targeted Marvel comics.
Star Wars: Forces of Destiny is a new brand for Lucasfilm and Star Wars, focusing on the female heroes of the saga. This effort will include children’s books and short form animated stories, first premiering on YouTube in July.
Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi – an entire publishing effort similar to Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with books that have hints and tie-ins to the new film while being all new stories able to stand on their own. Including in this publishing effort are new reference books, children’s books, and the following new stories in the Star Wars canon:
Star Wars: Captain Phasma (Marvel Comics) – a 5-issue mini-series supposedly answering the question how Captain Phasma survived the destruction of Starkiller Base
- Leia: Princess of Alderaan (Disney Lucasfilm Press), a Young Adult novel by Claudia Gray – the cover of this book suggests an A New Hope era story, perhaps prior to the events of Rogue One.
- The Legends of Luke Skywalker (Disney Lucasfilm Press) by Ken Lou – the cover of this book suggests filling in some of the time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, but also may harken back to an earlier time.
- Phasma by Delilah S. Dawson – a new novel giving us more insight into the history of this character and perhaps what led her to be who she is.
These are the highlights of the reveals from Star Wars Celebration. It seems the future of storytelling in a galaxy far, far away continues to be rich and full of life!
