Well, the SDCC panel for Star Wars: The Force Awakens just wrapped – Did you follow along with the liveblog on StarWars.com? Following are some of the highlights — from a panel full of highlights!
Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, and John Boyega joined J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy on stage. There was no new footage or trailer, but there was this truly spectacular behind-the-scenes video!
Then the panel expanded into Dark Side territory with the appearance of Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), and – finally! – Domnhall Gleeson was revealed to be a character named General Hux.
Christie: “I found it very exciting that underneath that armor is a woman. And it makes it more relevant than ever.”
Gleeson: “I am evil. He’s British.”
Gleeson says he was told that the character was in charge in some way. Abrams confirms the character’s base is called “Starkiller.”
He [Driver] says they didn’t approach him in terms of bad or evil…
New cast members were then joined by Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill!
Carrie Fisher: “It was like a flashback…I didn’t think it was going to happen again.”
“There were times the three of us were standing together…” and it was hard to observe what was actually happening.
Hamill: “Without you guys [the fans] we’re nothing.”
Hamill says he’s very moved when he hears from fans — whether they named their son Luke or met their wife at the premiere of Return of the Jedi. He says you don’t often realize the impact you could have on someone’s life.
But wait, there’s one more…. Harrison Ford!!
I’m fine, he [Ford] says. I walked here.
How did it feel to be back? “It felt great…the original Star Wars was the beginning of my working life…so it was great to be back. Thank you.”
Following the panel, all the fans in Hall H were invited to a private Star Wars concert — under stormtrooper escort to another location. Guess the Force was with them!
