Deadline Hollywood and Variety are reporting that Rian Johnson (Looper, The Brothers Bloom, and several episodes of Breaking Bad) has been chosen to be the writer/director of Star Wars Episode VIII, and possibly Episode IX as well.
J.J. Abrams is hard at work on Episode VII, but the extent of his involvement in the next two installments is unknown at this point. Previously, Josh Trank and Gareth Edwards had been named as the directors of the first two Star Wars stand-alone films.
