Star Wars REBELS – “A New Hero” by Pablo Hidalgo
“So don’t be afraid of the Empire. Believe in something bigger than it. Believe in yourself.” – Star Wars REBELS: A New Hero
Absolutely! Believe. Without faith, what else is there? If you can’t trust in yourself, who can you trust? Sometimes we must put all feelings aside and rise above our selfish pride or what seems to be the safest way to live; the “norm.” If you choose to conform by ways of the Empire, you’re not really living, are you? You’re controlled by fear instead of free will and that’s no way to live. Besides, fear is the path to the dark-side.
For the first time in about … five years, I was asked by one of my children to read them a story. My son, Jacob was home sick from school this past Monday and was definitely craving “Mom-time” (don’t tell him I told you, he’d be very embarrassed). When he sat down beside me and placed the Star Wars book in my lap, I just couldn’t refuse him. Yeah, I’m a push-over for big, brown, bedroom eyes. So I opened the book and we both gazed in awe at the beautiful vibrant display of what appeared to be a close replication of Ralph McQuarrie art. Yes, Mother and son were quite pleased. So much so, Jacob interrupted me to ask, “Will you make the voices too?” Ha! Seriously, I love this kid.
As I read each funtastically colorful page aloud, I’d pause to explain the timeline and certain scenarios that were happening (or going to happen). Then it happened … he asked me “Mom, how come you know so much about this?” My response, you wonder? Well, because … “This is My Star Wars and I’m sharing it with you.” Like everyone that has a place with Lucasfilm story group, Mr. Hidalgo etc., this has always been OUR world, our galaxy … it’s up to us, to pass on what we have learned. Isn’t that what it’s all about? As we grow and as our children grow, Star Wars will continue to thrive for generations to come; forever ambiguous.
“And believe me, we’re going to win. We’re the Rebels.” –Pablo Hidalgo
How befittingly true! This book reminded me of why I fell in love with Star Wars the first time I experienced it; Hope. They (Han, Luke, and Leia) were the underdogs and were underestimated based on their appearances. The same can be said about our new ban of comrades (Kanan, Hera, Ezra, Sabine, Zeb, and Chopper) and you can feel it, they’re going to win. Though the era is a time of repression, of controlled conformity, you can sense a glimmer of hope growing … just over the horizon. It’s coming, the wait is almost over and as a new day arises, new heroes will pave the way for a righteous tomorrow. Yes, Rebels Rule!
I’d like to thank Dan Z and Cory Clubb for giving me this opportunity to review such an awesome addition to the New Star Wars Universe; Rebels. Thanks to Lucasfilm, Disney, and of course, Pablo Hidalgo. There truly is NO better time, than now, to be a Star Wars fan!
