Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm president and producer of Star Wars Episode VII, was in attendance at a ceremony marking the opening of the new Industrial Light & Magic studio in the Soho district of London.
ILM is currently hard at work on several projects, including Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man and – of course – Star Wars: Episode VII. The new studio is not only convenient to the many productions that film at Pinewood Studios, but it also expands Walt Disney’s presence in the U.K.
Speaking of Star Wars, Kennedy stated that Episode VII is nearing the conclusion of filming – only about “three weeks off” to be more precise. She also hinted that future films in the franchise would be filming in London, as well:
“This continues a long tradition of Star Wars movies being made in London. It goes back to 1976, and to know that we are now coming back and we will be making the movies once again based out of Pinewood, and now we’re looking to put together this studio, it’s rather remarkable that this has all come together in less than two years.”
With filming wrapping up, can a title announcement or a teaser trailer be far behind? *fingers crossed*
Star Wars Episode VII is due for release December 18, 2015.
