Just who is the cast of Star Wars Episode VII? Some names we all know very well – perhaps even better than our own! Okay, not really – but Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Peter Mayhew are all back for the next installment of the Saga. Much to the relief of fans everywhere, no doubt!

There are a few familiar names we all know from their non-Star Wars related work. Let’s run through those briefly:

Max von Sydow is a legend. Perhaps best known as Father Merrin in The Exorcist, he has an extensive body of work that extends from 1949 to the present day. Aside from The Exorcist, highlights include The Greatest Story Ever Told, Three Days of the Condor, Flash Gordon, Dune, and the television series The Tudors.

Andy Serkis is definitely known to anyone who has even glanced at Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings films. His portrayal of Smeagol/Gollum was masterful! Other notable credits include King Kong, The Prestige, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and its upcoming sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

The rest of the actors are probably not as well-known to most fans, in keeping with the tradition started by George Lucas when he cast the original Star Wars back in the 1970’s.

John Boyega is a 22 year-old British actor with mainly television credits to his name. He will be seen with Keifer Sutherland in the upcoming Fox series 24: Live Another Day.

Domhnall Gleeson is a 30 year-old Irish actor. He is the son of actor Brendan Gleeson, and at one time was rumored to be the next Doctor on Doctor Who (that role went to Peter Capaldi). Gleeson was seen most recently in the film About Time. Other credits include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2 (as Bill Weasley), Anna Karenina, and Dredd. (BTW, he pronounces his first name doe-nal – useful info going forward!)

Daisy Ridley is really new! Most of her work since 2013 has been on television in the U.K., perhaps most notably in Mr. Selfridge.

Oscar Isaac is a 35 year-old actor originally from Guatemala. His film credits include The Nativity Story, For Greater Glory, and the Oscar nominated Inside Llewyn Davis.

And finally, Adam Driver. He is a 30 year-old American actor, and rumors of his involvement in Episode VII have been strong for the last few months. His body of work includes Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln and the HBO series Girls.

Aside from the Star Wars veterans, there’s no word exactly who the other actors are playing. Jedi? Sith? We’ll have to wait and see. Updates as we get ’em!
