IDW Publishing Five-Issue, Weekly ‘Clone Wars — Battle Tales’ Series in April

The final season of The Clone Wars is getting some four-color company as a five-issue, weekly mini-series from IDW Publishing during April.

The publisher revealed plans for the Michael Moreci-written series — Star Wars Adventures: The Clone Wars — Battle Tales, noting that each issue would focus on the battles amid the raging Republic-Separatist conflict that made up the animated series that returns Feb. 20 for its farewell season on Disney+.

Moreci is scripting the stories and each issue will sport a framing intro by artist Derek Charm, much the same as IDW’s previous weekly forays — Tales From Vader’s Castle and Return to Vader’s Castle –did.

“This era of Star Wars feels so expansive and open as far as storytelling possibilities, so I’m really excited to be able to spend a good amount of time in it,” Charm, who is providing covers for each issue, said in a statement.

“I’m really looking forward to finally working with Michael Moreci, as well! We’ve sort of been orbiting each other in the monthly Star Wars Adventures book for a while, but this will be our first time working together,” he said. “We’ve talked about some of the things he has planned for this series, and it’s going to be pretty great.”

Each issue features a spotlight artist, too, with Arianna Florean tackling #1, Megan Levens #2, Valentina Pinto #3, Davide Tinto #4 and Philip Murphy #5.

The Clone Wars is probably my favorite in all of Star Wars. It has it all — big adventure, sweeping romance, Force mythology, Jedi powers and, of course, awesome clones,” Moreci said. “This event series is going to bring together all the best, evergreen parts of Star Wars and weave a story that longtime fans (like myself) and new, younger readers (like my own kids) will definitely love.”
