CWK Logo 2 How fortunate am I to be scheduled to post on the day NEW STAR WARS comes into our lives?! The wait is finally over for Star Wars Rebels! I for one am very excited. I know that “always two there are” when it comes to sides of fences as well as the Force. Much like the Prequels I am happy to have new Star Wars in my life. Yes, I have a certain love for the PT that many don’t share (please refer to “fence” comment). Fine – Darth Maul, Fett and Clones, and Vader man…Vader. ‘Nuff said. There, now I can get back to NEW STAR WARS!

Taking place 5 years before the Battle of Yavin (or -5BBY for the hardcores) we are going to see the rise of both an establishing Empire and a “start-up” Rebellion. The characters have me intrigued after the trailers and clips and everything. We start with Chopper (the plucky astromech that will make us all think we understand blips, beeps, and whistles and make us laugh), Zeb (the Chewbacca-esque muscle that we can actually understand), Kanan (a Jedi that has survived Order 66 must be cool), Ezra (street-smart little rascal with a strong sense of the Force in him and an “E-Sling-Shot” [Santa baby]), and then top them off with the strong-willed women we love to see in the Galaxy – Commander Hera the Twi’lek pilot of The Ghost and Sabine the Mandolorian explosives expert. Top that off with heavily influenced McQuarrie-esque designs and characters, this has got to be good. We have new villians like the Inquisitor with a double lightsaber that spins and separates and Imperial Officers to fuel our love/hate for their arrogance. We’ve also got some familiar faces coming back like Obi-Wan, C-3PO and R2-D2, and an intro to fan favorite Lando Calrissian (not a rumor if it’s on IMDB, but it says Billy Dee Williams as Lando – “Unknown Episodes”) Oh, I can’t forget OLD NEW STORMTROOPERS and NEW OLD STORMTROOPERS! The boys in white are back from the future…um, what…well you know how this timeline goes.

This is a big leap of faith for Disney to give to the fans that have been waiting to see what Disney is going to do for us, so you know they won’t disappoint. At this point, I am more than on board. Rebels seems like a perfect appeteaser to get us “through the dark times” waiting for Celebration – at time of writing this it’s 195 days, 11 hours, 38 minutes, and 15 seconds away (I know, 1138!). You know that Celebration is going to be absolutely insane with more news and info for EP7 than we can handle (yeah, right…we can handle it). To be right across the street from Disneyland during what will probably be the biggest Celebration ever, it will truly be the Happiest Place on Earth. Hope to see a bunch of you there in 2015!

TONIGHT don’t forget to set your reminders, your DVRs, your Disney XD apps, smart whatevers you have, or just watch it when it airs. Wake the kids and the grandparents, let the dog and cat in, make some popcorn, gather around the ol’ 73 inch HDTV, and hold tight! I find myself feeling like Bart Simpson at Kamp Krusty when he’s repeating “Krusty is coming, Krusty is coming” but it’s “Star Wars is coming, Star Wars is coming”.

As always I welcome all comments and questions you may have for me.

Troy my man! Love the blog and like you and so many others I’m super psyched for the Rebels premiere tonight! Like Rain Man, I’m rocking back and forthrepeating “11 hours til Rebels. 10 hours 59 minutes to Rebels.” The excitement is in the air! “this will be a day long remembered.”

It was so much fun to watch “Spark of Rebellion”, and I can’t wait for the series to begin on Monday! Your enthusiasm abounds, Troy! It was just as much fun to read your post. I, too, have been waiting … with bated breath … for “Rebels” to air. Dave Filoni and crew and Disney did not disappoint. We have a lot to look forward to!

    REBELS Rules! Awesome Blog, Dude!
Seriously, this is probably the best thing next to …. blue milk 🙂
What’s fantastic is, we have New Star Wars and it feels like it did when we were kids…as if we got sucked in to some time continuum and we’re back in 1977 all over again!

    Great entry!

I was Darth Vader for Halloween when I was 5 almost 6 (1978). My mom wouldn't stand for the plastic bag Vader outfit which we bought for the mask. She made me a costume while my dad made me a lightsaber. At that time no one had a lightsaber. It was an old Ever/Ready flashlight - remember the classic all chrome with the red cap on the end? He electrical-taped a clear golf club tube - the ones that go into golf bags - onto the lens. The costume was a fabric cape and a shirt complete with chest box made from a box top covered in fabric and felt squares. Of the 5 or 6 Vaders on the block that year I was the coolest. Now I am in my 40's, have my awesome and supportive wife Brandy, an impressive collection, friends that I consider family, and not ashamed to be a lifelong Geek.
