After experiencing engine failure and crash landing his single engine plane yesterday, it looks like Harrison Ford is on his way to a full recovery. When news first broke, the situation seemed more bleak than it does currently. He was described as being in “critical” condition, but that understanding was soon updated to “fair to moderate.”

In a statement to the media, Ford’s spokeswoman, Ina Treciokas, had this to say about the incident:

“Harrison was flying a WW2 vintage plane today which had engine trouble upon take off,” a rep for Ford said in a statement to EW. “He had no other choice but to make an emergency landing, which he did safely. He was banged up and is in the hospital receiving medical care. The injuries sustained are not life threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery.”

There are some reports that Ford suffered a broken pelvis and ankle – for which he underwent surgery – along with gashes to his head.

Of course, we all remember last year that Ford was injured on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He broke his leg at that time, but recovered and was able to complete filming.

Due to his quick thinking, excellent piloting skills, and levelheadedness, it’s likely he saved lives (not just his own) by ditching the plane on Penmar Golf Course, which is located next to the Santa Monica Municipal Airport, rather than trying to make it back to the runway. Since that is a residential area, the situation could have been much worse.

Pilot and aviation expert Sully Sullenberger – famous for “The Miracle on the Hudson” – has flown with Ford in the past. This is what he had to say about Ford’s skills on CBS This Morning:

“He approaches flying with a professional attitude. Well, I’m sure he’s flown out of that particular airport many times, and he knows where the open areas are – and it was a golf course in this case – so he would have had that already in mind and when the need arose – he made use of it.”

Some of Ford’s Star Wars co-stars took to Twitter to wish their friend well.

Finally, Ben Ford expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of love and concern for his dad.

Get well soon, Mr. Ford! All us here at Coffee With Kenobi are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. MTFBWY!
