After a number of rumors over the last few weeks, it looks like the search for the female lead of the first Star Wars standalone movie has ended. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) has been chosen.
Not much is currently known about this project, aside from the basics. It’s safe to assume it takes place in a galaxy far, far away…. (couldn’t resist!) and Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) is directing. Chris Weitz recently stepped in as screenwriter after the departure of Gary Whitta, and Felicity Jones is the first cast member announced.
The movie is scheduled for release on December 16, 2016 – almost one year to the day after the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Welcome to the Saga, Ms. Jones! May the Force be with you, always.
