Anyone familiar with the work of J.J. Abrams knows to expect a certain level of secrecy surrounding any project where he’s at the helm. However, the top-secret nature of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has taken ‘hush hush’ to an all-new level — pleasing some, frustrating others. Domnhall Gleeson, one of the stars of The Force Awakens, seems to fall into the ‘pleased’ category.
In an interview with Radio Times, Gleeson said:
“I would say it’s the most secrecy I’ve had to work with, just because you have to sign so many things.
I don’t even talk about it – I’m not even afraid I’ll let anything slip anymore, I’m just aware that it’s actually boring, because I know the answer is I can’t talk about it.
Once I got to set, the way JJ was working and the love, the genuine love for Star Wars that was everywhere on set – it made me want to protect those secrets. It wasn’t like I was contractually obliged to keep them.”
He went on to say:
“I trust them with it – it’s not one of those moneymaking schemes, though I’m sure it will make money. The love for those movies, what those movies meant to them, to everybody on that film – you could really feel it.
I’m really proud of it– I hope it’s good! We’re in trouble if it’s not…”
No matter what camp you find yourself in — spoiler-free or bring-it-on — there has to be a real appreciation for the care that is being taken by all involved in the production. It’s good to see they love Star Wars as much as we do.
All our questions will be answered (maybe!) when Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters on December 18.
