During a quarterly stock holders meeting yesterday, Disney Chairman Bob Iger said that there are three non-Saga Star Wars movies in the works. The spin-offs are part of a “plan to mine the sci-fi franchise over the next decade.” Up till now, it was always reported that there were two spin-offs being planned.
So, it’s possible we now have six movies to look forward to? Sounds good!
Iger also said that the company was “surprised by the fervor and level of interest, passion, pent-up demand for Star Wars and new movies.”
During the conference call, Iger also discussed plans for Maker Studios, a YouTube network that Disney purchased back in March. He said that Disney plans to use the channel for short and long-form programming, and that could include using Star Wars characters.
“We can allow the Maker people to substantially improve the distribution and reach of shorter form video using these characters and stories and add their expertise on the production side,” said Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger during the call.
