Core Worlds Couture With Jay Krebs
This edition of Core Worlds Couture focuses on the Star Wars Chewbacca Floral Button-Down Camp Shirt from Kohl’s.
This shirt is marketed as a men’s wear item, but I purchased it for myself, and decided to do a bit of a style challenge with it, and found it to be a very versatile shirt, indeed!

Product specs and Details:
This fun shirt features a Hawaiian-inspired print showcasing our favorite furry friend, Chewbacca, holding his famed bowcaster. Chewie is playfully placed among hibiscus and ferns, and the background colors are a blend of light denim blue, aqua, and green. There is also a bit of outlining in white and black in some areas, helping the design to pop a bit more.
The shirt is a 55%/45% cotton/poly blend, and machine washable in cold water. The care tag suggests a low temp tumble dry, but I would definitely suggest washing on cold, and hang to dry, so you can preserve the size, shape, and colorfastness of the shirt. The construction looks to be a very small basket weave, which is pretty typical for this style of shirt, but it might even be a shadow weave. Hard to tell for sure, and the description does not specify.
The shirt is crisp, but not stiff. It has a soft feel and is flexible while wearing. The material is nicely breathable, so it doesn’t feel too bulky while wearing in the hot sunshine.
It has a button-down front, and smaller buttons on the collar as well. All of the buttons are of a four-hole application (more sturdy than two-hole), and the button placket down the front features a double topstitch detail. The side seam construction features a flat-felled seam, (which has more overall integrity and wear life than a simple seam or serged-edge construction), with topstitching on the serged-edge arm seam, giving it a bit more strength with arm motion. The single-layer patch pocket is applied with a double topstitch as well, and is found on the left breast of the shirt.
Price:
Listed at $36.99 on the Kohl’s website, but I picked it up for much less, thanks to a sale they were having in-store, and some Kohl’s Cash I had in my wallet!
Size:
I am wearing a men’s small, which fits up to a size 36 waist. The actual shirt measures 21” from armpit-to-armpit, and 28 ½” center back (from bottom of collar to bottom hem).
Overall Reaction and Rating:
This really is a fun shirt to wear. The design is a great way to showcase your fandom in a whimsical, summertime feel sort of way, while looking fashionable at the same time! I’ve worn this shirt out to eat a casual dinner with friends, and even while car shopping for my 16 year-old son, in 90-degree heat at an outside dealership! I also plan to wear it to teach at school, especially while the weather is still in summer mode (nope, no AC at the high school where I teach)!
This shirt gets a 5/5 Galactic Credits rating, because of the attention to construction detail, application methods and overall great, versatile ability of wear options. Get creative! Enjoy my little fashion show below…

Another great look for the office/classroom. Layered over a grey knit sheath dress, tied in front, with knot tucked under.
