Core Worlds Couture: Redbubble Star Wars Graphic T-shirt Dresses Review

Core Worlds Couture with Jay Krebs

Welcome back to Core Worlds Couture, where you’ll find reviews of the latest and greatest Star Wars fashion items!

Today, I’ll be reviewing Redbubble’s Star Wars Graphic T-shirt Dresses. Redbubble is an Australian-based online marketplace, with offices in San Francisco, California. The company allows its current number of over 400,000 worldwide artists and designers to contribute unique, original work that can be represented in a wide variety of products for purchase. There are SO many items, from phone cases to pillows; notebook covers to travel mugs.

The graphic t-shirt dresses I’m reviewing here are not the first time I’ve ordered products from Redbubble. My teenage sons have their own unique brand of fandom, so I’ve ordered plenty of t-shirts and other apparel from the site in order to quell their quest for the unique!

Currently, there are 925 designs listed on the Redbubble site for the keywords “Star Wars.” Not all the designs are truly from a galaxy far, far away, but somehow must fit the search parameters (there were even some Pokemon GO! team designs – go Team Mystic)!

The two designs I decided to go with, after much thought and debate:

Space Spy,” by the artist Cavalyn (Berlin, United States)
SWR Fire Bird” by the artist Lornaka (Moscow, Russian Federation)

I liked these two designs, because they are subtle: to a casual observer, they not necessarily scream “STAR WARS!!!”, especially the Bazine-inspired print. I can wear it and feel like I have the confidence of a bounty hunter!

There are, however, plenty of designs on-site that will easily put your fandom right in someone’s face!

$45.00 each, plus S/H (Standard Post for me was $6.99). For me, I felt that the price was a bit steep for a t-shirt dress, but I understand that there is a lot going on in the process, and I felt good about supporting the efforts of artists that may not otherwise have an outlet for their work.

The site accepts a variety of payments, including PayPal and Amazon payments, so if you have an account set up through Amazon, you can check out directly through your account, with no additional fees.

There is a size chart on the website, with instructions as to how to take your body measurements. According to the chart, I was a medium, and ordered my dresses as such. When the dresses arrived, I found them to be a bit on the roomy side, so if you want more of a fitted look, you might want to order one size down (of course, this also depends on how you want to accentuate – or detract from – your curves). I ended up taking in the sides of one of my dresses, just because I didn’t like the “barrel look” it was giving me. But, I’m short (5’3”), so on a long-legged taller gal, the look would probably be much different!

Shipping Time/Satisfaction of Packing and Shipping:

You will receive a confirmation email right away, that will inform you that you will receive additional emails as the products are made and shipped. I also received a notification from Amazon on the day the package arrived (which, coincidentally, was my birthday – happy mail day)!

Total processing time from order date to the date I received the dresses was 11 business days, which is a pretty good turn-around time for custom-type apparel.

The packaging consists of a Redbubble bubble-mailer (say that 10x fast), and each t-shirt dress was nicely folded inside its own little Ziploc-type bag.

Durability/Washing and Care Instructions:

These are t-shirts, essentially, so the wearer has to remember that, as such. They will be susceptible to snags, as all knit fabrics are, and the being a graphic print, the designs will most likely fade somewhat over time. However, by following the care instructions carefully, you will help prolong the look, fit and overall wear life of this product.

My hints: ALWAYS use cold water when washing, turn the t-shirt inside-out (it helps preserve the longevity of the design), and NEVER tumble dry, unless you are using very low – or no – heat. Hang to dry!! One other helpful tip: add a shot of white vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser. Vinegar helps keep the colors of your designs vibrant, and it also helps neutralize any odors that may linger, even after the detergent has “washed” the clothing.

…and don’t slap pandas…

My Overall Rating/Reaction:

These graphic t-shirt dresses are certainly a fun way to add some Star Wars flair to your wardrobe. They are comfortable – basically an oversized t-shirt! The profile of the dress allows a versatility that can be easily manipulated to give you a variety of looks: You could be ultra-casual, or create a profile that is very polished and professional, all with the addition of a few accessories.

20160716_223838 I plan to wear these dresses for play and work. They are lightweight enough to wear in the early weeks of the upcoming school year, as I return to my non-air-conditioned classroom, yet are playful enough to throw on a pair of Chucks and head out to the movies.

As for my numbers: These t-shirt dresses get a rating of 4 out of 5 Galactic Credits. The whole buying and wearing experience was easy and satisfying for the type of product it is.

Do you have any of these Redbubble graphic t-shirt dresses? Have you anything to say about other Redbubble products you may own? I would love to hear from you!
