Core Worlds Couture: Love and Madness Star Wars Doorknocker Necklace and Hair Clips Reviews

Core Worlds Couture With Jay Krebs

Welcome back to another edition of Core Worlds Couture, where you’ll find reviews covering a wide variety of Star Wars fashion and accessories. Everything is suitable for a range of fangirl ages, so there’s always something for everyone!

Today, the focus is on a limited-run doorknocker necklace and some Star Wars hair clips from Love and Madness. If you aren’t already familiar with the Love and Madness line, you can check out their website, as well as a previous CWC review of mine.

Product Description of “The Doorknockers – Star Wars Style” (description from website):

“With a right, left, right, left left your toothless then you say damnnnnn Doorknocker you ruthless…Um. Seriously. Heavy AF. We are warning you, not suitable for kids or drunks. They chunky and cute and they know it…”

stormieknocker I would buy one by the description alone! Too funny!

There are a variety of styles/colors available: Stormtrooper is made from hematite, Darth Vader in black metal, C-3PO in gold and Yoda in silver. The website does not specify what type of metal is used for the necklaces or pendants themselves (I’m sure the Threepio option isn’t made from solid gold, though). Bottom line: the options are about the color, not the metal, so if you have any kind of metal allergy, I wouldn’t hesitate to email the ladies at Love and Madness to find out for sure what is used in the product. My experience thus far with the company is that you will receive a quick, friendly response to your inquiry.

The pendant itself is a statement piece – you can see from the size of it as I hold it in my palm! Granted, I don’t have a very big hand, but the height of the pendant is 1 ¾”, and its circumference is 5” at its widest area (the bottom of the helmet).

I own the Stormtrooper doorknocker. The chain is 36 ¼” inches in total length, with a lobster claw closure and a multiple-option ending. That way, you can vary the length of the necklace, and where you want it to rest on your body when you wear it. The closure area also features a metal, pendant-like Star Wars logo, as well as the heart-shaped Love and Madness signature logo, also in pendant form.

20161022_163838 One thing with which I can definitely concur: the necklace IS very heavy. I find myself holding it while I walk (especially through the hallways at school), so it doesn’t bounce too much…! I find that to be reassuring, though: the pendant is solid, not hollow, and seems to be very durable.

Price: $50.00, which also includes shipping. You will receive your necklace in a satin Love and Madness drawstring bag.

Durability:
As previously stated, this piece seems to be a pretty hearty doorknocker. I’ve had it about three months, and I’ve worn it to work a few times, as well as out on the town, and it hasn’t shown any signs of wear, flaking or scratching. The metal of the necklace hasn’t discolored or tarnished at all, either.

The heaviness of the pendant is something I find to be reassuring, as well: as previously stated, it is definitely a very solid piece, not hollow.

Wearing my Stormtrooper Doorknocker Necklace for a night out with hubby!

My Overall Rating/Reaction:
I really like this necklace! Like I said, it is certainly a statement piece, and one that’s easily recognizable as a piece of wearable Star Wars art. I have also layered this necklace with other shorter ones, to give a more bold effect to the overall look.

I’m planning to get the C-3PO necklace next – I need more Star Wars gold pieces in my collection, and it would go great with my gold and black Crawl Wrap! Speaking of the wrap – I promised to let you know how well the wrap held up over time. I’m pleased to say that since July, I’ve worn the heck out of it, and it’s just as beautiful as the day I got it!

As For My Numbers:
I give this doorknocker necklace 4 out of 5 Galactic Credits. It’s a stunning piece, and a fun one as well, but it can be cumbersome at work sometimes, as the weight of the pendant can get in the way of my desk, etc. Overall, I love it, though! As I said, I’m definitely planning to get the C-3PO option. I’ll update you if I do!

Let’s switch gears and talk about the hair clips!

Product Description (from the website):
Star Wars X Love and Madness Star Wars Hair Clips“These hair clips are the bees knees…. Choose from a zillion options: Stormtrooper in Gold, Silver, White. Darth Vader in Gold, Silver, Black. Yoda in Gold, Silver, Green. Millennium Falcon in Gold, Silver.”
Once again, the website does not specify what type of metal is used, or how the colors are applied to the clips themselves.

The clips are approximately 2 ½” inches at the widest part, and they’re all relatively even in size, overall.

20161022_163651

I own the black Darth Vader, the silver Millennium Falcon, and the Green Yoda.

Price: $6.00 each. After you add the item(s) to your cart, you can then specify in the “notes” section of your cart which options you want. Once again, you will receive your clips in a satin Love and Madness drawstring bag.

Durability/performance:
So far, I’ve been very happy with the overall performance of the clips. I do have thin hair, so they don’t always stay put as well as I would like. I find them slipping out of place quite often, and I have to keep re-clipping them. However, they’re great for keeping in my purse for whenever I have an emergency need to keep my bangs out of my eyes, especially when I’m teaching my culinary classes, or when I’m bowling.

They’re also able to hold a bulkier load as well – I’ve used my clips as a scarf pin (on thinner-weight scarves), so I would assume they would be okay for someone with thicker hair. I just can’t see these clips working with a ton of hair, or for someone with very thick hair – they’re meant to be an accessory, not something you would expect to wear to the gym.

Three clips, three different looks

So far the closure has held up well with repeated use – it hasn’t gotten loose or misshapen with wear, and the hinges seem to be holding their ground, as well.

The color and metal of each clip is just as nice as the day I got them. One word of advice for these clips (and ANY piece of jewelry): as a general rule, do NOT spray hairspray and/or perfumes on these pieces. It will severely limit the lifespan of any of your jewelry and/or hair accessories.

My Overall Rating/Reaction:
These clips are a fun little addition to my fashion collection. I don’t feel like they’re too immature or kiddie-looking, either. They add just the right amount of flair to an outfit, and like I said, they are practical for keeping around whenever those annoying flyaway pieces need to be controlled!

As For My Numbers:
These hair clips get 3.5 Galactic Credits out of 5. Although super-cute, I just don’t feel as though they’re something one would use all the time, and as I said, they’re more for an accessory than for practicality. Their size and hair-holding capacity doesn’t give someone many options for consistent use.

What fun pieces, Jay! This series of blogs you post for CWK is greatly appreciated. I always enjoy reading them.

By the way, I just ordered the wrap crawl bracelet. The necklace was tempting … but I really don’t wear necklaces. The few I have are, basically, of sentimental value to me. 🙂 I am looking forward to wearing the ANH crawl bracelet to “Rogue One” — especially since we both know into which film the new stand-alone film segues. 🙂

    Happy Halloween!!! MTFBWY 🙂
