Core Worlds Couture With Jay Krebs
Time to lounge around, Star Wars-style! This week, I’ll be reviewing two Loungefly accessories: The “Loungefly x Boba Fett Brown Crossbody Bag,” and the “Loungefly x Star Wars: The Force Awakens BB-8 Mini Dome Bag.”
Loungefly is known for their wide variety of contemporary whimsical items, including bags, t-shirts and other licensed accessories. In addition to their online store, you can purchase their products through several other websites, as well as specialty boutiques, or even conventions.
Today, I’ll be doing a side-by side comparison and review of these two bags. Let’s do it!
I acquired each of these bags on a different timeline, and through two different sources. My Boba Fett bag was purchased at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in April, 2015. My BB-8 bag was a gift from Hubby this past Christmas, and was purchased online at ThinkGeek.com.
As far as purses and bags go, I’m not usually one to interchange this accessory for every outfit I’m wearing. Normally, I find a purse/bag I really like and use it until it falls apart. Right now, I have three purses I switch around from time to time, two of them being these two Loungefly pieces. However, my go-to everyday piece over the past 15 months has been the Boba Fett bag, and I absolutely love it!

Now, THAT’S my kind of specifics…!
Boba Fett bag is listed on the Loungefly.com site at $60.00 plus S/H, which to my address in Ohio would be $7.85. Unfortunately, there’s no way to estimate shipping charges unless you go through the checkout process, at least up to that point. There are also options for FedEx delivery, if you’re really in a hurry, and are willing to pay more. The site accepts a variety of payments, including PayPal.
I purchased mine in-person at SWCA, and I paid $65.00. Not bad for a convention purchase, in comparison to online.
BB-8 bag is listed at $70.00 on the Loungefly site, and $69.99 through ThinkGeek. There was a discount on the bag through ThinkGeek at Christmas, so it was a bit cheaper than now listed. Shipping through ThinkGeek is listed at $6.95 for flat standard shipping, with expedited shipping available. You can estimate shipping before going halfway through the checkout process, which I appreciate! Orders over $75.00 are free. ThinkGeek has a variety of payment methods, also including PayPal.
One nice thing about ThinkGeek that I like is that you can join their mailing list and rack up Geek Points, which can be redeemed toward various items. You also get regular newsletters and alerts from the ThinkGeek Overlords. I also like to collect the “Timmy Monkey Stickers” they include with every shipment.
Shipping time/Satisfaction of Packing & Shipping:
I have never ordered from the Loungefly site directly, so I cannot attest to their shipping quality.
The BB-8 bag from ThinkGeek arrived in less than a week, in a box containing pillow air bags around it, and wrapped in a protective canvas-y drawstring bag. The metal plate on the back of the purse, as well as the Resistance logo details, were covered in protective plastic, which was easily removed. The handles to the bag were also covered in protective plastic, including the metal links which attach the handle to the body of the bag. I’ve never been disappointed with ThinkGeek’s packing/shipping, and I’ve ordered A LOT from the site over the years!
I am not nice to my purses. They get taken everywhere: to work/school, restaurants, bowling alleys, ball games, family gatherings, movie theaters, thrown in the back seat of my car…you get the idea… I can honestly say that my Boba Fett bag has gotten its fair share of use (and abuse), and has held up beautifully! In the 15 months I’ve had it, I have not experienced any discoloration of the faux leather, no problems with any of the zippers, lining is completely intact and as nice as the day I got it. The strap has not shown any wear, and the ribbing around the outer seam is not worn, discolored, etc. at all. It has never experienced any transfer of dye/color from clothing, either. The only problem I’ve had is with the magnet/snap that is supposed to keep the front flap secure. It only works if I have next to nothing in the bag, which is rarely to never. I’ve never had to condition the faux leather – or even clean it! It looks just as great as the day I bought it at SWCA.
The BB-8 bag I’ve only used sparingly, but it’s made very durable, and wipes clean with a damp cloth. I did get one little scuff on the bottom of it once, but it wiped off very easily with an eraser sponge (like Mr. Clean Magic Eraser). It seems to be pretty water-resistant, as I’ve been known to set it down in the snow a couple of times, and the water just runs right off of it.
My Overall Ratings/Reactions:
Both of these bags are well worth the money. Loungefly makes some fun, quality products. There are SO many purses and bags on the market, and with the influx of Star Wars designer bags costing upwards of $300.00 and up, these little gems are quite the bargain.
My Boba Fett bag goes with everything, really. I love taking it grocery shopping (or just shopping, period), because the cross-body strap enables me to keep it on my person, rather than having to hold it or leave it in a cart while I shop. That same reasoning comes into play when I’m going to an event, like a garden/flower show, or even watching my son compete at a bowling match: there’s never anywhere to sit, so it’s nice to stand and have my hands free to cheer!
The color is practical, and the inside is deep and roomy. There are a couple of extra zipper compartments for “personal items” and such. In addition to my own stuff, I’ve even been known to smuggle bootleg water bottles and Junior Mints into movie theaters with it (ssshhh!!!). However, the size of the bag isn’t so big that it looks goofy or cumbersome on my short-statured self.
I love the design. The Boba Fett helmet is created in the “Dia de los Muertos” (Day of the Dead) “sugar skull” art style, for which Loungefly is known to use with several of their products. The faux leather is soft and pliable, too. The straps are fully adjustable, so you can decide where you want the bag to rest. I keep it about hip-height.
A lot of people don’t even realize it’s a Star Wars piece, unless they’re in-the-know, or ask me what the design is. I’ve had many people approach me randomly, as well, and just say “Hey! LOVE that Boba Fett Bag!”
…and it’s mostly guys!!
My BB-8 bag, for me anyway, is more of a “statement piece,” which I use/carry when I really want to put my Star Wars fandom in your face! The colors are bold, and it screams fangirl! I almost went with the R2-D2 bag, because it’s blue and that color tends to compliment a wider range of outfits. But, in the end, BB-8 was my choice, because as much as I love Artoo…orange is the new blue! 😉
The bag itself is misleading in its size…for a small purse, it’s very roomy inside, and I can fit my long checkbook wallet, eyeglasses case, and several other items inside.
The look is beautiful. The little gold accents and pearlized color on the shell vinyl get caught in the sunlight, and really sparkle and shine! It’s definitely an attention-getter!
The weight is light, and the shell is very sturdy, with a very rigid base to sit nicely on a flat surface, yet the body is somewhat pliable, all at the same time. It’s a great little purse to carry in-hand, or hand from the crook of your arm and get attention from passersby!
As For My Numbers:
The Boba Fett bag gets a rating of 4.9999 Galactic Credit Rating out of 5. I would love to give it a 5, but that magnet snap…overall, it’s one of the best purses/bags I’ve ever owned.
The BB-8 dome bag gets a rating of 4.5 out of 5 Galactic Credits, at least at this point. I haven’t had/used the bag long enough to give it a true, test-of-time rating. I would LOVE to hear from some of you who use these Loungefly dome purses on a regular basis, though!
Overall, Loungefly is a merchant from whom I will continue to purchase with confidence in quality and bang for the buck.
