We’re so deep in smit with Doctor Aphra right now it’s not even funny. The latest issue, #22, found Jeff and Matt enjoying the rollicking tale, despite the awkwardness of having not one but two lovers show up! The same with Lando: Double or Nothing #3, which is proving to be a worthwhile addition to Lando’s long history and is required reading.
Did we mention that the latest A Star Wars Comic hit us in the feels? Listen to find out why as we discuss Jim Mello and Alex Ray’s latest creation and wonder aloud why these two aren’t writing and drawing Star Wars comics for Marvel or IDW. (Seriously, c’mon. Give ’em a book. Now.)
We also dive deep into the Star Wars comics news at SDCC. Listen, won’t you?
Well, we were right on a couple of Star Wars comics predictions from SDCC, mainly the Solo: A Star Wars Story adaptation and something truly scary from IDW Publishing, but we got far more than we thought was possible, what with the cursory reveal of Marvel’s plans for a 30-issue maxi series focused on the three epochal eras of the Saga: Age of Republic, Age of Rebellion and Age of Resistance, the first of which makes its debut in December, written by Jody Houser with one-shots on Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul.
Coming in October — in what seems like record time for a movie adaptation — is Solo: A Star Wars Story, a five-issue mini series written by Robbie Thompson and illustrated by Will Sliney, featuring covers by Phil Noto and Leonard Kirk. Like the previous film adaptations, this one promises new material that will help firm up the film’s story and link it to the overall canon.
IDW didn’t disappoint, either, what with its long-in-the works Star Wars: Tales from Vader’s Castle, a five-issue weekly series that comes out in October. Written by Star Wars Adventures writer Cavan Scott and illustrated by Derek Charm, Chris Fenoglio, Kelley Jones, Corin Howell, Robert Hack and Charles Paul Wilson III, the series boasts an array of familiar faces, with stories set in the shadow of Darth Vader’s citadel on Mustafar
This week’s Star Wars comics include:
- The Last Jedi adaptation #5
- Star Wars #52
