Andy Serkis on His ‘Force Awakens’ Teaser Voice, Age of Ultron, and Directing {Video}

Andy Serkis was recently in attendance at the 2015 Jameson Empire Awards where he discussed his first directorial endeavor, Jungle Book: Origins, and he also talked a bit about his role as Ulysses Klaw in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. He also addressed his frustration at the continued lack of recognition for motion capture artists.

On the subject of Star Wars, he talked a little about the voice he employed in the teaser trailer for The Force Awakens, and the debate that raged over whose voice that was – his own or that of Benedict Cumberbatch.

He doesn’t disclose who he’s playing in the film, so there’s no big revelation as far as that goes. Still, it’s a pleasant interview, so enjoy!

In case you need a reminder, or you just can’t get enough, here’s the teaser for The Force Awakens, featuring narration by Andy Serkis.

Chills – Every. Time. 🙂

The Force Awakens opens in theater December 18.

    Part of me hopes that Andy Serkis will be playing a character in whom we will see his natural face. Serkis has such a compelling visage which would lend itself well to a pure character.

      That is my wish as well. I love his motion capture work, of course, but it’s always nice to see HIM on-screen from time to time — as we will in Age of Ultron.

    What a delightful interview with Andy Serkis. 🙂 A great pleasure to hear what he had to say on all subjects. (and I couldn’t agree with him more about the lack of credit/acknowledgement regarding actors who “voice” motion capture characters. True, it’s teamwork, but it is the actor/actress who brings each of those characters to life. 🙂 )

    And, because it was there, I just had to watch that 88-second teaser again. 😉 Thank you for posting it.
