Here’s a fun Star Wars related event for Illinois-area fans! Three different libraries will be hosting a program studying the history of Star Wars and its impact on our culture through newspaper articles, rare photos, and more from 1977-1980.
Here’s a look at what attendees can expect from these presentations:
A Long Time Ago: The History of Star Wars Through Newspapers
There’s never been a cultural phenomenon like Star Wars, which not only reshaped expectations of what cinema could deliver, but also spurred the world’s imagination. Sociologists John and Maria Tenuto will share their research from more than 2,000 newspaper articles exploring how our culture reacted to and was influenced by the original films. Stories, forgotten trivia, rare photographs, and more will be excavated during this fascinating look at the world’s newest mythology. Travel through newspapers on a nostalgic journey to what it was like in 1977 to 1980 as Star Wars forever changed the cultural landscape.
